Local comedian publishes science-fiction book

craigwoodjpeg.jpg

Once known for his comedic acts on stage and over radio waves, Craig Wood recently published his first book, A Legacy in Time (Byers Publishing, 2007).

Craig Wood, 42, spent the past few years writing the science-fiction novel in between drawing a comic strip and stints on local radio stations. He got his inspiration to write from his admiration of books written by authors like H.G. Wells.

The book follows August Clark who can’t remember much about his early life: his childhood, even the past decade. He feels out of place in the 20th Century, but doesn’t know why. August is an antiques dealer who is especially interested in clocks and is surprised to find a secret journal hidden inside a grandfather clock once owned by a relative who mysteriously disappeared. As he reads the journal, the words and sketches seem familiar to him and he feels the need to visit the home of his great-grandfather. What he finds inside this old, vacant home could explain his neurosis and change his life forever.

Wood, a native of Boyds Mills, has worked for several local radio stations over the past two decades. He did celebrity impressions for the Jeff Walker Show on WKRZ, the Chris Star Show on WDNH, and also had his own early morning show on Q102. Wood, 42, relied on his repertoire of more than 100 celebrity impressions for his standup acts at local resorts that included the former White Beauty Resort at Lake Wallenpaupack. Within the past few years, he shared his talents with the University of Scranton's WUSR radio station and created the comic strip What a Life for the Moscow Villager.

The book was designed and illustrated by Lucas Weidner, a graduate of Penn State University's graphic design program. Weidner, of Phoenixville, has designed several books that have received critical acclaim including Sea Stars and Polar Bear, Arctic Hare (Boyds Mill Press, 2006). He is also an accomplished musician who plays guitar with the Honesdale-based Arnie’s Milk Truck. Currently, he works as a graphic designer for The Goddard School, Philadelphia.
